Definitions

The Silent Beacon device is referred to as the Beacon

The Silent Beacon’s application is referred to as the App

The main Silent Beacon user is referred to as User, You or Your.

A person you choose to receive alerts inside the app is called a Contact

A second user of a separate App and Beacon is referred to as a Secondary User

A User’s mobile phone, Tablet, or other Bluetooth device the beacon is connected to is referred to as a Smartphone

The lighting system on the Device is referred to as a LED

The Silent Beacon for Businesses Application is exclusively downloadable for iPhones and iPads through Apple’s iOS App Store as well as for Bluetooth-enabled Android phones and tablets at the Google Play Store.

Compatibility for Apple Devices

Any Bluetooth 5.0 enabled iPhone or iPad with cellular service and the latest operation system installed is compatible.

Compatibility for Android Devices
To check if the your device is compatible, simply search for the App on Google Play store. If the App appears, it will work on your device.

App Updates

Make sure your App and the Firmware on your Beacon are updated to the latest version.

The splash screen is the first screen that appears when opening the App. The screen includes:

Enhancement 

Welcome Screen

The Welcome Screen is where you log in to your account.
  • Click “Log In” to access your account

Notifications

A prompt will appear asking you to turn on “Push Notifications.” This enables the App to send notifications when the following events occur.

• The Silent Beacon App is closed
 
• The Beacon has disconnected from the phone
 
• An Emergency Contact has triggered an Alert on their own Beacon
 
• Footsteps has either started/stopped
 
• Check-in has been pressed
 
• The smaller button on the Beacon has been tapped, indicating it’s connected without needing to open the App.
 
 

Log In 

You are required to enter the phone number of the smartphone that will connect to the App. At the bottom of the screen, there are two (2) legal documents.

By logging in, you accept our Terms of Service, User Disclaimer, and Privacy Policy.

Log In – Step 2

A verification screen requires you to enter a 6-digit code which is sent to the number you entered in the Step 1 screen.

If you do not receive the code, you can choose additional options to receive the verification code.
 
The two options include:
 
• Resend Code
Our server attempts to send the passcode again to your phone.
 
• Verify by Phone Call
You will receive a call back from AI verbally sharing the 6-digit code.
 
Once you enter the code press “Continue.”

Log In – Step 3

The final login step requires you to enter a private 4-digit passcode. This code is used when you attempt to turn off the emergency alert mode or remove/delete the App from your phone.

You are prompted to re-enter the passcode to ensure the correct 4-digit passcode has been entered.

 

Error With Account

If you entered a phone number that is not registered, you will be notified with a popup message.

 

If you have not registered or had a previous account under this phone number please contact the Admin of your ESS Silent Beacon account.

Location Services

The screen on the left allows you to acknowledge the importance of enabling Location Services and displays the recommended option that will allow the App to properly function.

The screen on the left prompts you to select which location sharing setting.

 

IMPORTANT !

The App and Beacon will not function properly unless you select “Allow While Using App” or similar functionality.

Connect your Beacon

Now you will be prompted to connect your Beacon to the App.

This connection can be skipped and found on the Beacon screen; however, we recommend connecting your Beacon at this point in the set-up process. Please proceed by pressing “Connect Now.”

BluetoothÂŽ

A prompt will appear asking you if you would like to use Bluetooth.

Pressing “OK” will allow you to connect the Beacon to the App through Bluetooth LE connection.

 

IMPORTANT!
If “Don’t Allow” is pressed, the Beacon will not connect, and the App will not function properly.

In the Main Menu an (!) icon will appear at at the top right of the menu, prompting you to turn on Bluetooth.

Beacon Setup Guide

The step-by-step setup guide will allow you to quickly connect your Beacon to the App.

 

• Charge Beacon
• Turn on Beacon
• Connect Beacon

IMPORTANT!
Bluetooth must be turned on the smartphone that has the Silent Beacon Business App!

Beacon Setup – Step 1

Ensure the Beacon is fully charged before connecting it to the App.

 

The accompanying USB-C cord packaged with the Beacon can be plugged into any USB-C port that can be found in a computer, wall outlet, or car.

Beacon Setup – Step 2

To turn on the Beacon, press the smaller button (smooth surface, not raised) for about 2 seconds. You will hear it power up and the LED light will activate cycling red-green-blue.

 

To confirm if the Beacon is turned on, press the same button and the LED should blink red or blue (red for not connected to the app, blue for connected).

Note:
To turn off the Beacon, hold both buttons for 5 seconds and it will start glowing Purple.

IMPORTANT!
Do not hold both buttons for more than 10 seconds as it activates Reset mode.

Beacon Setup – Step 3

To pair the Beacon with the App, place the Beacon next to the phone and tap “Connect.”

 

Please allow up to 30 seconds for the App to pair to your Beacon.

Beacon Pairing

The App will now attempt to pair with the closest Beacon.

 

To confirm the Beacon is turned on, press the same button and the LED should blink red or blue (red for not connected to the app, blue for connected).

IMPORTANT!
After the initial Bluetooth connection, Bluetooth Calling will need to be connected.

Beacon Pairing 1/2

Once the Beacon is paired to Bluetooth, “Beacon Calling” attempts to connect.

 

“Beacon Calling” enables the Beacon to call when in Emergency Mode. Once emergency mode is activated on the Beacon, the paired phone will automatically dial the preset number.

Note:
The Beacon has two-way communication via the water-resistant speaker and microphone. Once “Beacon Calling” is connected, you can place calls directly through the Beacon with only one press of a button.

Beacon Pairing 2/2

Once the Beacon is paired to Bluetooth, a popup screen appears stating “Silent Beacon 2 would like to pair with your phone.”

Click “Pair” to fully connect your Beacon to the App.

Beacon Paired

Now that the Beacon is paired, “Bluetooth” and “Beacon Calling” show as “Paired” in blue and the Beacon’s current battery level appears.

 

On this page, you can also activate “Find My Beacon.”

Find My Beacon
If you can’t locate your Beacon, press the “Find My Beacon” icon to sound a chime. Your Beacon must be within Bluetooth range to hear the its chime.

Beacon Paired Continued

Device Information
View your Beacon’s current Firmware version and access Firmware updates.

Device Identifier
The support team can refer to this number if you experience technical issues.

Remove Beacon
The Beacon will unpair from your phone and delete your settings from the Beacon, allowing it to become accessible to other users.

Factory Reset
The Beacon will unpair from your phone and delete your settings from the Beacon, allowing it to become accessible to other users.

Warning! The Silent Beacon for Businesses App must remain open (and running in the background) at all times to successfully notify your contacts during an emergency. While the Beacon can still call the selected number if the App is closed, your contacts will not receive the designated notifications. Please ensure the App is open and running for optimal Beacon performance.

 

Beacon Reconnecting

If the App has lost connection to the Beacon, it will continue to attempt to reconnect.

Once it finds your Beacon it will reconnect both Bluetooth and Beacon Calling.

Remove Beacon from App

“Remove Beacon” will delete the Beacon settings from the App. This is done when you no longer want to use the App on your phone or when you try reconnecting the Beacon.

 

Factory Reset the Beacon

Factory Reset allows you to reset the Beacon to its factory settings. All stored data and connections to the App will be erased. You may wish to Factory Reset the Beacon if there are issues with the connection between the App and the Beacon or if you are removing the Beacon from your.

Important!
To complete this process you must go to your Bluetooth settings and delete the connection to Silent Beacon 2.0.

Main Menu

The Home Tab includes the most crucial functionality – Emergency Alert Mode.

Emergency Alert Button

Automatically turns on when the Beacon is in Emergency Alert mode. You can also activate the Emergency Alert mode directly through the App by holding the button for 3 seconds. To deactivate Emergency Alert mode, press the same button within the App and enter your 4-digit passcode.

Settings

Allows you to manage your information, customize messages, reset password, access support resources, and log out of the App.

Map / List Toggle

Allows you to toggle between the Map view, which shows your location and any of your Contacts in  Alert Mode, and List Mode, which displays all alert information.

Header Tabs

Beacon Tab
You can check your Beacon’s status, connection, firmware, and device information. This also provides a color-coded status for your Beacon.

Gray = Not Setup
Black = Disconnected
Green = Connected
Yellow = Connection Issue

Dispatch Tab
View the contacts you will notify when in various alert modes. The Dispatcher is the number the Beacon will call when you activate Emergency Alert mode. Alert Groups are the contacts that will receive alert notifications when you activate the Emergency Alert, Footsteps, and Check-in. If activated by the Admin, you can also add an external contact who will receive your alert notifications.

Main Menu – List 

The “List” tab compiles all recent and past alerts from you and your emergency contacts.
 

Track Footsteps Alert Mode

“Track Footsteps” enables your Alert Groups to continuously track your live GPS location. You can activate this mode by pressing the “Track Footsteps” button at the bottom of the “Home” screen or the small, smooth button on the Beacon.

Turned on from the App
Once “Track Footsteps” has been toggled on, a popup message will appear letting you know this has started. Press “Turn Off” if this was done in error.

Turned on from the Beacon (App open)
The App will send notifications with your live GPS location to your Alert Groups.

Turned on from the Beacon (App shut)
Nothing will happen.

Check-In Alert Mode

“Check-in” allows your Alert Groups to receive non-emergency notifications along with your GPS location. This mode sends multi-channel notifications to your contacts, including a static link to your GPS location.

Turned on from the App
The App will display a popup message confirming that “Check-in” has been sent. The App will send a notification with your GPS location to your Alert Groups.

Turned on from the Beacon (App open)
The App will send a notification with your GPS location to your Alert Groups.

Turned on from the Beacon (App shut)
Nothing will happen. 

Emergency Alert Mode

“Activate Emergency Alert” enables Dispatcher to receive emergency notifications with the user’s GPS location. Simultaneously, the preselected calling Dispatcher will receive a phone call from the user. The user can activate the Emergency Alert by pressing the button at the bottom of the Home screen or the large button on the Beacon.

 

Turned on from the App
The App will ask the user if they wish to call the Emergency Number.

Turned on from the Beacon (App open or App shut)
A phone call will be automatically placed through the Beacon.

To deactivate the Emergency Alert, the user must press the red “Emergency Alert On” button where they are prompted to enter their 4-digit passcode. Once the 4- digit passcode is submitted the Emergency Alert is disarmed.

Dispatchers Screen

The Dispatchers tab allows the user to view their emergency contacts and each contact’s notification settings.

Dispatcher
The contact who will receive the phone call when the Alert is activated on the Silent Beacon device or in the Application. Your company can program any phone number in the U.S. as well as 911.

Personal Contact
If activated from the Admin, you may add a personal contact who will receive alert notifications when the user activates an alert mode.

Beacon Screen

 
The Beacon Tab displays the following information:
 
• Beacon Pairing information
• Beacon Battery Life
• Can’t Find Your Beacon Alert
• Device Information
• Device Identifier
• Remove  Beacon
• Factory Reset

Settings Menu

The “Settings” menu is where the user can manage their subscription, update messaging, adjust other settings, and review legal documents.

My Information

Your contact information is stored in the “My Info” tab, which includes your name, phone number, and email address. Only your name and email address can be edited.

 

Your phone number is what serializes the account and cannot be changed. You must delete your account within the App before creating a new account with a new phone number if you have a new phone or phone number, you moved, or lost your phone.

My Passcode
You may change the passcode that was added at the “Log in” screen.

Delete Account

Your information will be permanently deleted. You will need to contact your company administrator about disconnecting from your company’s Dashboard.

Legal Documents

The user can view or download the legal documents that were agreed upon during the registration process.
